With this Nor'easter one would think you would rather be out hunting large instead of wanting to chit chat! Leave me some fish for the new moon, please! Ed
Some of you people actually think that this fabled area truly exists! It is a myth, Like the Montauk Monster. There is no "Land of the Giants". This is the story that all we locals laugh about as we sit at the bar and drink goblets of cognac, like, " Hey, go to the store and get me a Henway" or, "Come on kids, lets go on a Snipe Hunt!"....
That picture? That is Mike Milano! #1 hot stick sharpie in the big Mo! He is shown holding some puney little creature pulled from the water the other day...
what would be your strategy as to catching fish in december in Montauk? (I know they arent many out there, esp. this year, but of course theres still some out there [=)
No, There really aren't any fish around out here in December. In the past they had stayed around until mid month, but that was in the past. If there were fish here, I would persue them the same way as always, only I would dress a good deal warmer.

Do you prefer to drage it off the bottom with a twitch, or more of a straight retreive letting it ride a little higher in the water? Or do you think each has its time and place (Ex. Can't bounce on most of the south side rocks)
Nick, I prefer to drage it off the bottom with a twitch, or sometimes I use more of a straight retreive letting it ride a little higher in the water. I think each has its time and place. The more a jig looks like a sick fish, the more attractive it is to a bass...
The trick is not how many ML (same as cc only most syringes are in ML) the key is to add mineral oil until you reach neutral boyancy in 2 ft of water. start with 10 ml, then submerge in a bathtub with a piece of tape over the whole. The plug should stay in the water column anywhere you set it without floating or sinking. This is neutral boyancy.
The advantage is they cast better, and sink deeper into the water column when you give the plug a jerk. Sometimes this doesn't work. Sometimes it will. Experiment and always bring an unloaded plug to see which one works better...
Alright Paul, Look into your chrystal ball. One more shot at Montauk from black friday until Sunday or has the Fat lady sung? When does Dr. Melnyk call it a season?
Mick, I have won tournaments on November 30th here in M. Big fish will swim past M, the question is whether or not they will grace the beaches. There have been quality fish taken since Sunday out this way. My crystal is glowing in the Ultra Violet range and my silver fillings are vibrating so much that I can't sleep. What do YOU think it means?

I know you said you walk east from ditch, to get to the land of the giants. Do you ever walk west from camp hero?
